Eligible students

We welcome practicum students from accredited counselling and psychotherapy programs who are interested in gaining clinical experience in a supportive, trauma-focused environment.

OISE Students (University of Toronto)

Healthy Minds Psychotherapy is an approved practicum site for OISE (University of Toronto).
If you are a current OISE student, please apply through the University of Toronto’s official practicum application process and follow all program-specific deadlines and requirements.

For Non-OISE Students

We accept a limited number of practicum students from other graduate-level counselling or psychotherapy programs.
Applications from non-OISE students are reviewed on an as-needed basis, depending on:
  • clinic capacity
  • supervisor availability
  • alignment with current training opportunities
Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee placement.

Learning Objectives and Training Focus

Practicum students at Healthy Minds Psychotherapy can expect a structured learning experience focused on developing competence in:
  • clinical assessment and case formulation
  • trauma-informed psychotherapy
  • ethical decision-making and professional boundaries
  • clinical documentation and record-keeping
  • reflective practice and therapist use of self
Training emphasizes thoughtful integration of theory into real-world clinical practice.

Client Population & Presenting Concerns

Healthy Minds Psychotherapy supports clients across the lifespan — from children to older adults. Depending on training level and supervision, practicum students may work with individuals, couples, or families.
Common presenting concerns include:
  • trauma and complex trauma
  • anxiety and depression

  • emotional regulation and life transitions

Supervision Model

Supervision at Healthy Minds Psychotherapy is provided in accordance with CRPO standards and university practicum requirements. Supervision is ongoing and responsive to the practicum student’s developmental stage, caseload, and clinical complexity.
Supervision focuses on clinical assessment, case formulation, treatment planning, risk management, ethical decision-making, and professional boundaries. Reflective practice, including therapist use of self and countertransference, is incorporated to support effective and ethical care.
Practicum students are supported in identifying when consultation is required and in seeking guidance appropriately. Supervision is a professional and educational process and is distinct from personal therapy.

Practicum Students Receive

  • 1 hour of weekly group supervision
  • 1 hour of individual supervision per week with the Clinic Director, with adjustments as needed based on caseload and clinical complexity.
  • Opportunities to work with a diverse client population, with an emphasis on trauma-informed assessment and intervention
  • Ongoing feedback and formal evaluations as required by the student’s academic program

Professional Expectations

Practicum students are expected to:
  • maintain timely, accurate, and ethical clinical documentation
  • adhere to confidentiality, privacy, and informed-consent standards
  • engage actively in supervision and reflective practice
  • communicate proactively regarding clinical or ethical concerns
This practicum is designed as a training and learning experience and is not intended to function as employment or independent clinical practice.
