Therapy Coverage, Insurance Options & Specialized Programs

Many clients in Toronto and across Ontario are able to access psychotherapy through private insurance plans or specialized support programs. Healthy Minds Psychotherapy works with several coverage pathways that may help support the cost of therapy. Because insurance policies and program eligibility vary, our team is happy to help you explore what options may be available to you.

Check Your Therapy Coverage

If you are unsure whether psychotherapy may be covered for you, this quick guide may help. Many clients are eligible for reimbursement or program-funded services through private insurance, government-supported programs, or disability-related benefits.

Mini-checklist:
Before your first appointment, you may wish to confirm the following with your insurer:

  • whether Registered Psychotherapists (RP) are covered

  • your annual psychotherapy coverage amount

  • whether a physician referral is required

Using Private Insurance for Psychotherapy

Many extended health benefit plans in Ontario include coverage for psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

At Healthy Minds Psychotherapy, many clients use their private insurance benefits to help cover the cost of therapy sessions. Coverage amounts, annual limits, eligible providers, and referral requirements vary depending on your plan.

We work with a number of insurance providers and claims platforms, including:

  • Sun Life

  • GreenShield

  • Medavie Blue Cross

  • Insurance providers available through TELUS eClaims

Important note:
If you are unsure where to start, our Client Care Navigator can help you explore your options.
